One of the characters that has seen among people who served outside labor, such as agriculture is a round-shoulder that causes their lower heights than those who were not outside labor, such as agriculture is a round-shoulder that causes their lower heights than those who were not outside workers. A round-shoulder also causes narrower range of vision, less caution to obstacles ahead, and stumbling and falling at steps. Older women are more suffering from osteoporosis after menopause, which causes lower secretion of estrogen and more sensitivity of bone to the parathyroid hormones. Although there are some differences in the covered area of bone due to intake of nutrition and a level of exposure to the sun, many bone related diseases occur because of osteoporosis.
Our research compared older women (age 65 and above), who resided three different areas, to verify a difference in each region and its influences. The study investigated their diet, life style, some physical characteristics, such as heights and weights, and their bone density by using a computerized device, called VenusⅡ. Interview to each subject was conducted as well as survey and measurement methods. First, the research was administrated in the rural area, Y prefecture, where most subjects had served as farmers through their life. Then we investigated women who lived in the urban area, K prefecture, where the subjects enjoyed some kinds of physical activities, and then we researched women who had lived in Los Angeles, California as immigrants and spent most of their life in cross-cultural environment. |
