| 内容記述2 | Kita(1997) shows that children's communication developes from virtually nothing at birth to verbal communication, with intermediary stages of non-verbal expression combined with verbal expression. However, if a parent cannot understand what a child's actions mean, the communication attempt fails. This study suggests that parents do not understand a significant amount of their children's non-verbal communication.92 mothers were surveyed about their 4 month-34 month old children regarding the children's behavior when they desire to eat, sleep, urinate, defecate, and play. Their descriptions were classified into 7 categories(body parts, action, dynamics, space, relationship, verbal, no-expression) which were adopted from Laban theory. Results for the mothers' ability to recognize children's desire to eat [action(25.0%) space(10.3%)], sleep[body parts(21.6%) action(40.3%) relationship(14.2%)], urinate[body parts(15.6%)], deficale [action(19.6%) space(13.3%)],and play[relationship(33.3%) action(22.2%)] were found significant. In all categories, mothers were not able to understand their children's desires by dynamics. It was found that children can easily communicate with their mothers by doing things such as touching their bodies, pointing at things they want, or bringing something to their mother. However, especially in case of urination and defecation, mothers depend on verbal communication. |
